Organisation and explanation of cast, props and locations

Cast

Our plan is to complete the filming of our product in the shortest time possible (2-3 days), we are doing this as the actors we plan on using for our music video have a very busy schedule and cannot afford to spend too long filming . If we take too long we may not be able to secure our ideal cast.

After starring in our AS media piece and finding my acting skills to be of satisfactory standard, I was chosen to appear as the main character in our storyline. We all agreed that it would be easier to re-shoot neccessary shots as I would be easier to get hold of for filming.

We chose to use our friend Lauren Hitchens as our other main character, Lauren is a 17 year old female who is a colleague at work and was keen to showcase her acting skills in our production.

Props

We have chosen to use basic props in the construction of the promo video which are mainly home made such as the 'can phone' which will be made from empty cans and some string. We intend on using:

  • An Umbrella
  • A Bed Sheet
  • A Flower Headpiece
  • Bubbles
  • Tin Cans
  • Blue Pen
  • Paper
  • String

Keeping our list of props to a minimal will help us keep the production as simple as possible to eliminate the possibility of error. We will leave the props we need at one address so we do not lose any, if we lose some of the props it will mean we will have to either purchase/build an identical copy or have to re-shoot some of the shots that used the props in to maintain continuity.

Location

Many of our shots  are going to be filmed at locations nearby. We decided to do this as we do not have access to transport for ourselves and our equipment to distant destinations so if we need to refilm scenes we can travel to our locations on foot at an appropriate time. We plan on filming some scenes at quite a distant location, Sawtry (roughly 20 miles away). To ensure we do not have to return to the location for re-filming we will take a large number of takes and watch them back on location to ensure they are to a good enough standard to feature in our film.

Roles, actors and costume

Roles + ActorsOur proposed music video consists of two main characters. One being a male and another being a female to stick to 'love song's' codes and conventions. Our main male will be played by Isaac Warburton as he is very reliable and dedicated to the cause, he was the main actor in our AS video and as we will be using his camera he is 100% certain to be at all the filming sessions. Secondly, Luke has asked a friend from work to star in our video as we don't have any girls in our media group. Also, as Luke knows her she will feel obligated to attend filming sessions and not want to let him down.

Jim Daniels- Isaac Warburton
Sarah Matthews- Lauren Hichens

Costume

We want the main attractions for our music video to be emotive instead of visually appetising. Therefore our costume will be very basic in order to allow the viewer to become emotionally engrossed into the storyline without distraction. Also we will be using colours such as white to symbolise purity.

Risk Assesment

Weather and Lighting

As we want to maintain continuity throughout our production we want our production to keep to the storyline which is set in the daytime. This will consist of high key lighting so it would be benficial to us to film the majority of shots at the same time on a day pre-planned to have the same weather throughout. Also, to minimise risk, we will be shooting shots multiple times so we have back ups in case of emergencies, and if upon review during editing, they are not up to scratch. This will not affect the outcome of our video as the shots will be recorded in chronological order so the natural cycle of day light will not be interrupted.

Camera reliability

The camera we will be using is a high resolution Canon 550D as I already own this camera. As we are not hiring it we won't have to the problem of insurance so in order to create minimum risk we will be handling equiptment with care using tripods at most times so the camera is stable.

Actor absense

This could occur due to many reasons such as illness or personal. This hopefully will not be the case due to filming the shots in a single day or maximum of two days consecutive. If for any reason an actor/actress can't make the scheduled filming date then either Joe or Luke  will step in, and in the case of female lead, Lukes girlfriend Poppie will step in in place of Lauren.

Transport

Joe is  planning to pass his driving test by the time of filming, so we will be able to choose more elaborate locations to film, but in the case of unplanned circumstances we have a lake 5 minutes walk from two group members house. This is very fortunate as the location features all the appropriate scenery that we can use to achieve the scenes we're looking for.

Computer failure

There always is a chance that my computer might pick up a virus of some type, in this case we will be keeping the shots on the camera to upload to either mine or Luke's computer. Also we will be saving all files in two documents in case of corruption or some other computer failure.

Website Analysis

In order to make a mock webpage for the band we are using for our media, I decided to analyse some other already existing websites to uncover the common conventions and features that each website contains.

I found very varied results, with each website including different content to the other.

Here are 3 websites from Switchfoot, Coldplay and Snow Patrol:
